Setting up IMAP email account in Windows Live Mail

Here is a step by step guide on setting up your e-mail account in Windows Live Mail.

NOTE: To complete these steps, you will need to know your email address, password, incoming mail server name, and outgoing mail server name that is provided by your service provider (in most cases Integralvision will have supplied this information).

  1. With Windows Live Mail 2011 open, select the ‘Accounts’ option from the top menu bar.
  2. Click the Email button.
  3. On the window that appears fill out the options as follows:
  4. Email Address: your full email address – eg yourname@yourdomain.com
  5. Password: your mail box password.
  6. Display name: Your name exactly as you want it to appear to recipients when they receive email from you.
  7. Check the ‘Manually configure server settings’ option.
  8. Click Next.
  9. ‘Configure server settings’ should appear. Fill out these options as follows:
  10. Incoming server information :-
  11. Server type: IMAP (recommended) or POP3 (either can be used here).
  12. Server address: mail.<domain> – replace <domain> with your domain name, so for example mail.yourdomain.com
  13. Port: 143 (If using IMAP) or 110 (for POP3)
  14. ‘Requires a secure connection (SSL)’ should remain unchecked
  15. Authenticate using: Clear text
  16. Login user name: your full email address – eg yourname@yourdomain.com
  17. Outgoing server information :-
  18. Server address: mail.<domain> – replace <domain> with your domain name, so for example mail.yourdomain.com
  19. Port: set to 25 – however some ISPs do block port 25 for external mail services, so if you experience difficulties sending email then you should try port 587.
  20. ‘Requires a secure connection (SSL)’ should remain unchecked.
  21. ‘Requires authentication’ should be *checked*
  22. Click Next. Windows Live Mail will display a ‘Finished’ message, connect to your mail box and download all email.
